Odontalgia also known as a toothache is an aching pain in or around the tooth. Some of the many factors that contributes to toothaches are caused by:
- Dental Caries: Also known as tooth decay or a cavity, this is a bacterial infection that causes demineralization of the hard tissue and destruction of the organic matter of the tooth. This is caused by the accumulation of food debris.
- Pulpitis: A medical term in which the dental pulp has become inflamed. Causes of this pulpitis is when a dental carie penetrates through the enamel and reaches the pulp. This may be a result of trauma, such as thermal insult from repeated dental procedures.
