Tooth Sensitivity

Posted May 17th, 2012 in Health News

Porous tissues called dentin is protected by your gums and by your teeth's hard enamel outer layer.

Dentin can be exposed due to receding gums, fractured or chipped tooth, or erosion. Microscopic holes in the dentin, called tublues, are connected to the nerve, triggering pain when irritated by certain foods or beverages.

When treating gum sensitivity your dental provider will suggest that you use a soft bristle toothbrush or a power brush with a desensitizing tooth paste.
