TMJ

TMJ is short for “temporomandibular joint disorder" and refers to pain in the jaw joint.

TMJ can be caused by trauma to the jaw area, wear and tear over time, teeth grinding or clenching – just to name a few. While the pain is concentrated in the jaw joint and can make your bite feel unusual or out of place, it can often cause:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Difficulty Chewing or Biting
  • Ear Pain
  • Ringing in the Ear
  • Hearing Loss
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

So, what do you do if you think you're experiencing symptoms of TMJ? Simply schedule an appointment. We'll review your symptoms, habits and lifestyle choices. Oftentimes, a few simple changes to your lifestyle can lead to significant pain relief from TMJ.

In cases where lifestyle is not a major factor, we can recommend appliances such as custom bite-guards, which can significantly improve the symptoms you're experiencing. We may also refer you to a specialist if we feel it is necessary.
